No, while the Lighthouse of Broward shares a common name with other agencies that serve people who are blind or visually impaired, we are an independent, private, not-for-profit organization. All of the funds we receive are used exclusively by our organization to serve people who are blind or visually impaired in and around Broward County.

Can my group have a speaker make a presentation on these questions and the services of the Lighthouse of Broward?

Absolutely! Lighthouse of Broward offers in-service training to groups of all ages in schools, businesses, government offices, and community organizations. Please call Jose at 954-463-4217 extension 141 to make arrangements.

Are there any openings to join the Lighthouse staff?

Please see our Employment page for the latest employment opportunities.

What is a low vision exam?

A low vision exam helps determine the best ways to maximize your current level of vision. A comprehensive low vision examination is very thorough, taking 2-3 times longer than a regular eye examination. It’s important to have a comprehensive low vision examination, performed by an ophthalmologist who specializes in low vision, to determine whether specialized low vision optical devices, better lighting, large-print reading materials, or other types of training, such as vision rehabilitation services, can help use current functional vision more effectively.

How do I make an appointment with the NSU for a Low Vision Examination?

You can contact NSU Low Vision Clinic at 954-463-4217 extension 122, or 954-262-4209

Is there a store at the Lighthouse?

No, but the Lighthouse does have a limited supply of items to assist with daily living, such as talking watches, bump dots, bold markers, and signature guides.
