Social Groups at The Lighthouse of Broward

Our activities include:

Group ActivityAlumni Association: Meets the 3rd Friday of each month, from 10 am -12 pm in the boardroom. The members of the Alumni Association are former clients who raise funds to support staff who wish to attend training and conferences. They get tremendous satisfaction in "paying it forward."

Baking with Joel: Meets every 1st & 3rd Tuesday of each month, from 10 am to 12 pm in the client training kitchen.  There is limited space (5-6 spots) for each class.

Book Club: Meets the last Friday of each month, from 10 am - 12 pm. Many people who first come to the Lighthouse are delighted to learn that they don’t have to give up their love of reading due to vision loss, thanks to talking books. The participants are given a different book each month, from a variety of genres, and get together for a lively discussion.

Marilyn and Francine Gruder Lighthouse Lifetime Learners program: Meets periodically, details will be listed in the Beacon Newsletter. As the name implies, there’s never a time to stop learning. Guest speakers from all walks of life come to share information.

Trivia Group: Meets the 1st Friday of each month, from 10 am -12 pm. When raucous laughter is heard in the halls of the Lighthouse, you can be sure it’s coming from the trivia group. Questions on a variety of subjects are read by a volunteer, and anyone who thinks they have the answer is free to call it out.
