Beacon Newsletter April-June 2024

Dear Friends,

By now I’m sure you’ve had the opportunity to experience our new, beautiful building!  We’re back in business and are currently offering tons of client activities from bingo and fitness classes to arts and crafts and trivia groups!

We’re so thrilled that our newer facility offers so much space, offering us the opportunity to serve more individuals who are blind and visually impaired.  We’re very excited about this new chapter in our 50-year history.

To celebrate the opening of our new location, we plan to host a special gathering for all of our clients on Friday, April 19, 2024. We hope you’ll join us for a ribbon cutting, lunch and plenty of time to socialize with all your friends here.

Plus, we plan a community grand opening event that will host our illustrious community leaders including Broward County Mayor Senator Nan Rich and Sunrise Mayor Michael Ryan.  We will host approximately 75 guests at this cocktail reception and ribbon cutting celebration.  Our hope is to deepen our connections here in our new hometown of Sunrise to encourage an increased knowledge and support of the important work we do on behalf of those who are blind and visually impaired.

Speaking of support, our great partner American Heritage will host Heroes: A Benefit Concert for the Lighthouse of Broward next month.  This event, as you may know, honors the resilience and courage of heroes living with vision impairment. This year’s concert features a Speakeasy Soiree with Mitch Franco, who will perform sounds of past eras with popular classics brought to life, accompanied by the American Heritage Schools Orchestra. It’s sure to be another success in support of the Lighthouse. We’re so grateful for this wonderful partnership.

In other news, we hosted two events for our wonderful kids! For the Love of STEAM presented by UKG attracted more than 65 kids who are blind and visually impaired a to learn, explore and have fun! Also, Eggstravaganza brought out 50 kids and their families for the ever-popular beeping egg hunt, bounce house, face painting, crafts and more.  Everyone had a great time – at both events!

And finally, check out this Local10 story (click HERE), featuring our young client Joshmanny, showcasing the strength of our clients and the great work of our agency. We are so proud of the work we do.

With Gratitude,

Ellyn Drotzer, MSW, LCSW
President and CEO
