The Lyons Club of Dania Beach hosted blind and visually impaired clients and staff from the Lighthouse of Broward to celebrate White Cane Awareness Day with a full barbecue lunch, games and raffle prizes. Approximately 30 guests were in attendance.

“We’re very grateful to the Lions Club of Dania Beach for their consistent support of our agency and our clients for the past 20 years,” said Ellyn Drotzer, President and CEO of Lighthouse of Broward. “They really have a heart for those who are blind and visually impaired, especially the club’s president, Jim Silvernail. Jim, and all the members, are really wonderful individuals.”

White Cane Awareness Day, originally established as White Cane Safety Day in 1964 by the U.S. Congress, spotlights the challenges of those who are blind and visually impaired with a focus on their independence and equality.
