Job Readiness

Job Readiness Training, part of The Ready to Work program at Lighthouse of Broward, helps Lighthouse clients obtain employment and educational opportunities the same as their sighted peers. Our Job Readiness instructor guides students through complex topics such as creating a dynamic resume, writing compelling cover letters, preparing for interviews both in-person and online, mock interviews with executives and professionals, disclosing their disability, and requesting accommodations. Students work individually to master these skills while they build a network of connections and develop transferable skills.

Job Readiness instruction includes:

  • Preparing a resume or job application
  • Preparing cover and thank-you letters
  • Training in interviewing skills
  • Career exploration
  • Training in effective job seeking
  • Instruction in workplace expectations
  • How to disclose a disability
  • Requesting Accommodations

Clients who are enrolled in, or have graduated from, our Job Readiness course can participate in our monthly Job Networking Group. Lighthouse of Broward’s Job Networking group allows graduates of Job Readiness to connect, share job leads, and experiences in the workforce. Each month The Lighthouse of Broward aims to provide a compelling and informative guest speaker such as representatives from local organizations who assist individuals in their job search, Social Security Information sessions to provide knowledge on how benefits may be affected once employed, or graduates of our Ready to Work Program who have gone on to be successfully employed or even start their own business. This group allows room for our clients to receive continuous support, touch upon their skills, and grow their professional network.
